Pakistani PM congratulates people on anniversary of joining list of nuclear states
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated his country’s citizens on Tuesday on the occasion of “Takbeer Day,” a national holiday to commemorate Pakistan’s accession to nuclear states, the Associated Press of Pakistan reported. Marks of Defence capabilities The day symbolises a collective effort of all aspects of national power, overcoming what appeared to be an insurmountable challenge and achieving a milestone in the country’s defensive capabilities, the Pakistani Prime Minister said. “The date of May 28 represents more than a commemoration of one day, it is a summary of our nation’s arduous and wonderful path towards establishing a minimum of credible deterrence,” Sharif added in a blog post on his X social media account. “On this historic day of 1998, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif unveiled a bold leadership by rejecting nerve-destructive pressures and temptations, to make Pakistan a nuclear-armed state,” he continued. “I also commend Prime Minister Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, the founder of Pakistan’s nuclear program, for his strategic insight and unwavering commitment to the cause,” Sharif added. Pakistan became today the seventh country to possess nuclear weapons, and the first in the Islamic world, and the Pakistani nuclear scientist Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan became a national hero after this day.
