Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Kashmir Day: Developments in Middle East underscore need for conflict resolution

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif stressed that his country, government and people, celebrate “Kashmir Solidarity Day” every year to renew their steadfast support for the just and legitimate struggle of the Kashmiri people to exercise their right to self-determination.

The Pakistani Prime Minister added, during his speech on the occasion of the Day of Solidarity with Kashmir, that the right to self-determination is a fundamental principle of international law, and that every year, the United Nations General Assembly adopts a resolution affirming the legal right of people to self-determination.

He stressed that it is unfortunate that the Kashmiri people have not been able to exercise this inherent and natural right for the past seventy-eight years, and today, the Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir region remains one of the most militarized regions in the world, and Kashmiris live in a climate of fear and intimidation.
