Russia purchased almost 7 thousand tons of rice from Pakistan in 2024, evaluates new suppliers

Rosselkhoznadzor is discussing with Pakistan the expansion of the list of rice suppliers to Russia, and the parties are also working to begin deliveries of fish products, according to the agency’s materials.

"Rosselkhoznadzor informed about the results of the inspection, within the framework of which four companies meet the requirements for rice supplies to Russia. The issue of their opening will be decided additionally. For the remaining organizations, the service will send the corresponding comments to the Pakistani side in the course of work," the statement says.

In 2024, almost 7 thousand tons of rice were already imported to Russia from Pakistan; there is talk of opening several additional enterprises for deliveries, the press service explained.

This is by no means a large volume compared to imports from other countries: for example, deliveries of raw rice from Italy and Turkey to Russia, carried out via Novorossiysk, increased by almost a third over the eight months, to 355.6 thousand tons, the Federal State Budgetary Institution “Grain Quality Assessment Center” reported at the end of last week.

In addition, the parties discussed mutual supplies of fish products: currently, work continues between the competent departments to coordinate veterinary certificates for the export of fish products from Russia to Pakistan. Rosselkhoznadzor expects feedback from foreign colleagues on the drafts of these certificates.

In order for the Russian side to consider the issue of opening supplies of fish products from there, the Pakistan Veterinary Service must be provided with information on the system for monitoring and ensuring the safety of fish products.

In addition, during the meeting, Rosselkhoznadzor asked to resume work on coordinating a draft memorandum of understanding between the competent agencies on the safe use of pesticides and agrochemicals.
